Our wines are getting a new face
Our Neuburger is definitely something special and many times the first:
It was the first wine I macerated on the skin in 2009 and it was the first wine I filled into a concrete egg in 2014. And it will be the first wine from vintage 2019 which we bring on the market not with a “written” label, with a “real” label.
In Spring 2016 we had the first wines with the “wiping” labels. It was planned as a one-time thing, but then we decided to have this series for our whole range. This year we will change the wines step for step to the new design.
The idea behind the label came up by coincidence when we had dirty hands and touched our white wine boxes. The powerful red of the depot from Blaufränkisch was wonderful on the white background. It was anyway the perfect time for a special label: In 2014 most of the grapes of our single vineyards Jungenberg and Gritschenberg has been destroyed by hale. So we decided to put them together into our Blaufränkisch-Lagencuvée “Helden”, which became later Markus Altenburger red. Animated by the result to try more, we designed in the same month the first objects for the white version.
With the decision to create these labels for our whole range, we started into one year of creative confrontation with the questions: Which designs show the character of the wine the best and how can we create a range which is understandable for our clients? Basically it is like this: The less is on the label the more high-quality, fine and precise is the wine. It starts with the nearly fully printed “vom Kalk”-Labels, goes over to the ones with two elements which are the “name wines” (Markus Altenburger red and white) and is ending with our single vineyard wines which only have one single clear symbol. The designs are reducing as the wines are concentrating on the essentials.
All designs are made by ourselves through hands dipped into wine depot and then wiped, printed or lubricated.
The Neuburger deserved a special design which also symbolizes the vessel where he is aging: The concrete egg is not only giving the name, also the special form is visible on the label.
